Barefooting Without Bare Feet: Merrell Barefoot Collection
Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:57PM
The barefooting trend is picking up speed around the globe. With the sucess of Vibram Five Fingers, other brands have begun to jump into the fray. Merrell, a brand well-known for it's association with outdoor sports, has released their Merrell Barefoot Collection. Want to start barefooting? Well Merrell can be a good place to start.
A quick glance at the picture above reveals a rather shoe-y looking shoe. So how can this be barefooting, you ask? Aside from the funky looking foot-glove type of barefooting shoes, there is another type of shoe known as the minmalistic shoe. Not to be confused with racing flats, minimalistic shoes carry just enough material to be recognised as a shoe but do not provide any of the structural support for which athletic shoes these days are known.
The Merrell Barefoot Collection provides a minmalistic shoe that allows for greater ground feel when you walk and run. The result is an almost barefoot experience while being shod in shoes that look like, well, shoes! If you've wanted to give barefooting a try but were too afriad to go completely barefoot and too shy to be seen in the foot gloves known as Vibram Five Fingers, then the Merrell Barefoot Collection is the right choice for you!
Besides providing the shoes, Merrell is also providing information to help first time barefooters along. You can visit Merrell.com for more information on how to start out barefoot running.
Even better, Merrell has provided a handy-dandy iPhone application to help you get started too. If provides 40 days of structured guidance to help you get started on your barefoot journey.

Even if you don't plan on getting pair of Merrells, the information on the site and the iPhone application are free! So you don't have an excuse to not ditch your shoes!
But is barefooting really for you? It's been almost 5 months since I've started The Great Barefoot Experiment, so it's almost time for an update. Stay tuned!

Wow, now there is even an app for starting with barefootshoes :D
I don't have an Iphone, but that would be interesting because I ordered my first pair Merrells yesterday, so my 'feet-have-to-get-used-to-them"-phase will begin shortly. I'm excited how this will work out :)
